How Can I Stop Snoring?

04/30/2019

If you snore, you may feel like you slept great last night, but in the morning it turns out that your spouse didn’t do as well. And, just to make you feel worse, it’s your fault. If your loved ones hate sleeping in the same room as you when you’re on vacation, or your spouse is begging you to sleep on your back, it may be time to look into better snoring remedies. Keep reading to find out how you may be able to stop snoring.

Avoid alcohol

Drinking larger amounts of alcohol leads to relaxed throat muscles, and pretty much all of the muscles in your body. Remember feeling very loose and almost stumbling? You’ve had too much. When the throat muscles relax, they are more likely to vibrate as air passes over them, such as what happens when you breathe. The vibrations can then create the sound of snoring. Skip the nightcap before bed and see if that change reduces or stops your snoring. Could it really be that simple? For some people, maybe.

Lose weight

People who are obese or overweight are also more likely to be snorers. That’s because fatty tissue and poor muscle tone can lead to snoring, especially when the throat area is affected. Losing weight might sound like a big ask when you’re just talking about snoring, but being overweight has mighty consequences for your overall health. Eating a healthy diet full of real foods and exercising regularly is the best system to lose weight slowly and safely.

Treat allergies

Allergic reactions can lead to congestion and blocked airways. Congestion and a blocked airway can make your snoring louder or more noticeable. If your snoring is caused by allergies or seasonal allergies, finding effective medication or treatment can really help. Try eating a small amount of honey from local bees every day to see if that helps lower your allergic reaction to pollen. Or, consider looking at new over-the-counter medications to help control allergic reactions from dust and other allergens.
