Dr. Josef Shargorodsky brings a particular focus on complex sinus and skull base conditions to his work at Coastal Ear, Nose and Throat. Fellowship-trained in advanced sinus and skull base surgery, he treats patients across the full spectrum of otolaryngology while providing additional expertise for conditions involving the sinuses, allergies, and skull base tumors.
Dr. Shargorodsky has also been extensively involved in research throughout his career. His work has resulted in numerous scientific publications, presentations at national and international meetings, and book chapters on sinus surgery. His research has received attention from outlets including The New York Times and USA Today, and he has appeared on CNN, BBC, and the Today Show. He also serves on the Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Media and Public Relations Committee.
Dr. Shargorodsky graduated with University Honors from the University of Michigan before earning a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health and his medical degree from the University of Michigan School of Medicine. After completing his internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, he entered the Harvard Combined Residency Program in Otolaryngology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School. His residency training also included two additional years devoted to clinical and epidemiologic research at the Harvard School of Public Health.
He continued his training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, completing a fellowship in rhinology with an emphasis on sinus and skull base surgery. Dr. Shargorodsky is board-certified in pediatric and adult otolaryngology and is affiliated with Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Bayshore Community Medical Center, and Southern Ocean Medical Center.
Dr. Shargorodsky specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of sinus and skull base disorders. His advanced training allows him to care for patients with persistent or complex sinusitis as well as conditions requiring more specialized sinus and skull base surgery. His training at Johns Hopkins also prepared him to perform delicate procedures involving the skull base, including surgery for tumors that develop in this difficult-to-reach area.
