What Is Rhinoplasty?
Your nose is one of your most prominent features, so it's only natural to feel frustrated if it doesn't have the size or shape you want. Cosmetic rhinoplasty at Coastal Ear, Nose and Throat provides an opportunity to change those characteristics by reshaping the bone and cartilage to give your facial features better balance and harmony from any angle. We understand that no two people have the same vision when it comes to the "ideal" nose, which is why we factor in your natural facial structure, proportions, and individual goals when planning your treatment. We also specialize in functional rhinoplasty to help airways and sinuses work the way they should. Whatever your reason for considering rhinoplasty, we invite you to schedule a consultation with our experienced facial surgeons in Neptune, Holmdel, or Manahawkin, NJ to explore your treatment options.
How Is Rhinoplasty Performed?
Following your consultation, we'll plan out your surgery, review the details of your treatment with you, and provide instructions to help you prepare for the procedure. Rhinoplasty is typically performed using general anesthesia. During surgery, the underlying bone and cartilage will be carefully reshaped to create the changes planned during your initial appointment. Depending on what you want to accomplish, this may include smoothing a bump along the bridge, narrowing or straightening the nose, changing its projection, refining the nasal tip, adjusting the nostrils, or combining several of these changes. Your surgeon may work through incisions hidden inside the nostrils or make a small incision between them for greater access. Once the reshaping is finished, the incisions will be closed, and splints or nasal packing may be placed to support the nose while you recover.
What Are the Benefits of Rhinoplasty?
At Coastal Ear, Nose and Throat, we believe the "best" nose is the one that fits your unique face. Instead of trying to steer you toward a specific look, we'll partner with you, answering questions and guiding your treatment based on what you want to achieve. The benefits of rhinoplasty performed by our fellowship-trained surgeons include:
- Creating better balance between your nose and surrounding facial features
- Smoothing a noticeable bump along the bridge
- Refining the shape and definition of the nasal tip
- Improving the appearance of a crooked or asymmetrical nose
- Helping you feel more comfortable and confident in your appearance
Rhinoplasty Reviews
Dr. Silberman is the best! He’s done a major nasal surgery on one of my daughters and a tonsillectomy on another. My daughter that had the tonsillectomy threw up (she got motion sickness in the car about 6 days post op) and ruptured a blood vessel when a scab came off and was bleeding really bad and I called the office en route to the ER and Dr. Silberman was at the hospital before we were even registered. She ended up needing an operation to stop the bleeding and I don’t know what his schedule was like that day but he never left my daughter until she was stable. He is not only good at what he does but his bedside manner is wonderful!! Caring, kind, and just a great human being. I highly recommend him and his office.

I have been going to ear specialists since I was 5 years old ! That was 70 years ago ! Seventy years of so many doctors who have had to clean out the collection of ear wax and dead skin that builds up after several mastoid surgeries. It can be very painful. But since I have gone to Lydia Hawk, Physician Assistant at Coastal Ear Nose and Throat, I can honestly say she is the best ! Cleans out my ears with no pain whatsoever. She has a great personality, making each visit a calm, comfortable experience.
My mother is 81 and had a nosebleed so bad that it sent us to the hospital and eventually required admission and a blood transfusion! A PA from Coastal ENT came to the ER to pack her nose to help stop the bleeding. She was wonderful. She was gentle, kind and encouraging. Just what my mother needed.Three days later we went to the office and saw Dr. Bressler. First, the staff at the office were all so personable and kind. My mother was so scared to have that packing removed as she thought it would hurt and second, she thought it would bleed again.Dr. Bressler was so sweet, very encouraging and positive. She took her time and was as gentle as possible. Unfortunately the vessel was too far back to be cauterized but it didn’t bleed. Dr. Bressler took her time explaining why it couldn’t be cauterized, how to help prevent the vessel from bleeding again, what to do if it does and what to expect if it becomes a recurring problem. She answered every question with kindness and compassion and never made us feel rushed or unimportant. You can tell she truly loves her job and loves people.I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Bressler and Coastal ENT! My oldest son may need an ENT soon. If so, I’m going to bring him to Dr. Bressler!

Frequently Asked Questions about Rhinoplasty
What's the difference between functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty?
Cosmetic rhinoplasty changes the appearance of the nose, such as its size, shape, projection, straightness, or tip. Functional rhinoplasty addresses structural problems that make it difficult to breathe freely through the nose. Some people have both cosmetic and breathing concerns, which might be addressed during the same surgery.
How long does rhinoplasty take?
Rhinoplasty commonly takes about 2 – 3 hours, although the length of surgery depends on the changes being made. A relatively focused cosmetic adjustment may take less time than extensive reshaping or a procedure that also includes functional nasal surgery. We can give you a better idea of what to expect once your surgical plan has been developed.
What's the difference between open and closed rhinoplasty?
Closed rhinoplasty is performed through incisions placed inside the nostrils, so there is no external incision. Open rhinoplasty uses those internal incisions along with a small incision across the strip of tissue between the nostrils for more extensive reshaping. The best approach depends on your nose and the changes you want to make.
How long does swelling last after rhinoplasty?
Most of the noticeable swelling gradually improves during the first several weeks, but your nose will continue changing well beyond that point. Smaller amounts of swelling, particularly around the nasal tip, can take several months to disappear.
Will my rhinoplasty results look natural?
Rather than working toward one predetermined nose shape, our team considers your facial proportions, existing features, and the changes you want to make. The intention is for your nose to look balanced with the rest of your face so that the result feels like it naturally belongs there.
