Dr. J. Seth McAfee cares for children and adults across the full range of otolaryngology, with advanced expertise in conditions affecting the ear and hearing. He completed fellowship training in otology and neurotology, preparing him to treat complex ear conditions with both medical and surgical care. His work for patients at Coastal Ear, Nose and Throat focuses on ear problems that require a more specialized level of treatment.
Research has also been an important part of Dr. McAfee's career. During his residency, he received a grant from the Richmond Eye and Ear Foundation for his work on ototoxicity. He has since published multiple clinical manuscripts, contributed book chapters on neurotology, and presented his work at national medical meetings.
Dr. McAfee earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. He went on to receive his medical degree from Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, OH. During medical school, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
His postgraduate training began at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA, where he completed an internship in general surgery followed by his residency in otolaryngology. Dr. McAfee then continued to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for a fellowship in neurotology. This additional training focused on the medical and surgical care of conditions involving the ear and its connection to hearing and balance. He is board-certified in pediatric and adult otolaryngology.
Dr. McAfee specializes in otology and neurotology, with experience treating disorders of the middle and inner ear. His practice includes hearing loss and other ear conditions that may require medical treatment or advanced ear surgery. Because he also practices comprehensive otolaryngology, Dr. McAfee cares for children and adults with a broader range of ear, nose, and throat concerns.
